In my family, we worship the garment!
Our background is in textiles and manufacturing. My father, Jerome Targoff, ran textile mills and manufactured men’s clothing. My grandfather, Maurice Targoff, produced ladies dresses and my great uncle, Jack Targoff was a Latvian milliner.
I have always loved textiles, fabrics and fashion.
Buying 2nd hand has afforded me better quality.
My wedding dress was, 1930’s, vintage. The applique’ doves, flew in formation around the bias cut, black silk velvet, floor length skirt.
The skirt, later, became a splendiferous Halloween cape.
If a beloved garment is damaged or unwearable, I will transform it.
It may become a cozy, comfy hat, a cowl, a capelet, or a doggie tunic.
HandMeUps was inspired by a scrumptious black cashmere sweater, which was, unfortunately, also loved by the moths. It was put away and forgotten.
Later, I was inspired to turn the remnants into an elegant hat.
I have an eye for treasure. It will jump out at me, practically, fall into my arms or I will create it!
Blessings,
Iris
